Building Isolation

The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) is built alongside the new Royal Adelaide Hospital. This new $200 million facility makes up an important part of the NRAH Precinct, strengthening the links between medical research and clinical care.

Located in central Adelaide, and adjacent to nearby railway lines, Embelton was engaged by the contractor to provide an engineered building isolation solution to prevent groundborne vibration from disturbing critical research experiments undertaken within the building. Working closely with the structural engineers and acoustic consultants, Embelton designed, tested and supervised the installation of 518 Multiplate rubber bearings over which the 25,000 square metre Institute is built. Opened in 2013, the Institute houses up to 600 researchers in PC2-standard laboratories, utilizing the most advanced technologies, and adds to Embelton’s burgeoning portfolio of engineered solutions for the health services industry.
