MELBOURNE CENTRAL

Melbourne, Victoria

Floating Floor Isolation

One of Melbourne’s most distinctive architectural buildings, Melbourne Central is home to more than 300 shops and restaurants, and includes a full cinema complex, bowling alley, and gymnasium.

In order to ensure the vibration from the gymnasium, generated by treadmills and other exercise machines, as well as free weights dropping to the floor, didn’t transmit through the rest of the structure and cause discomfort to shoppers, the gym floor had to be completely isolated from the rest of the building structure.

Embelton designed and manufactured a concrete floating floor system, isolated from the structural sub-floor using a combination of 195 spring mountings and 600 rubber mountings.
