Underlays

ImpactaMat Rubber Acoustic Underlay

High performing acoustic underlay made from recycled rubber. Can be glued down or loose laid underneath floating floors, tiles, carpets, and concrete screeds.

Use this underlay…

• when you want to achieve the best possible acoustic performance
• if you need an acoustic rating that comes in well under the BCA-minimum
• when you want to glue down (rather than float) a floating floor over your underlay
• underneath tiles, carpet, solid timber and parquetry.

Noise Insulation Test Result :

• Will achieve a L’nT,W+Ci rating of 48 under a floating timber floor, with a plaster ceiling in the level below
• will achieve an FIIC rating of 57, with a plaster ceiling in the level below.

UnderlayGold

Hush Platinum Foam Underlay

High density closed cell 2mm foam underlay with moisture barrier. For use under floating floors, Hush Platinum is BCA-compliant, and easy to install . Comes with integrated peel and stick design for continuous damp proof sheeting.

Use this underlay…

• to achieve BCA requirements for sound insulation for floors between dwellings
• when some moisture protection is required
• to achieve satisfactory noise insulation performance.

HushUnderlay

Hush Gold Rubber Combination Underlay (WA only)

Heavy and high density rubber underlay with gold moisture resistant lining. For use under floating floors and carpets.

Use this underlay…

• to achieve BCA requirements for sound insulation for floors between dwellings
• when some moisture protection is required
• underneath carpet
• to achieve satisfactory noise insulation performance.

UnderlaysTemp

Softwalk 2mm Combination Foam Underlay

Basic combination foam underlay for use under floating floors.

Use this underlay…

• when no noise insulation is required
• when the most economical/affordable solution is required
• if you do note require your underlay to have a moisture barrier (for example if the floor has a moisture barrier already in place).

BCA Noise Insulation Requirements for Flooring Underlays

Understanding Sound Pressure

Sound pressure is measured in decibels (dB), and an increase or decrease is perceived by us as a change in loudness. Most of us would notice a change of 3dB, and a reduction of 10dB would sound about half as loud.

LnTw+Ci

The Building Code of Australia (BCA) requires the LnTw (plus a modifi cation factor “Ci”) to be not more than 62dB for fl oors separating dwellings.
This provides a benchmark to work to, and with selected noise isulation systems, can generally be achieved. The lower the LnTw+Ci value, the better the attenuation, and the better the result.

FIIC

FIIC rates a floor’s ability to reduce impact noise. It helps to rate structure-borne noise such as footfall, a chair dragging on the floor, or other realistic sounds, as a single value.
The higher the figure, the better the attenuation, and the betterthe result.

The Noise Insulation Performance of Embelton Underlays

ImpactaMat is Embelton’s premier noise reduction underlay, and is recommended when customers are particularly concerned about preventing noise transferring to rooms below. It will achieve an LnTw+Ci rating of around 48 when laid underneath floating floors, and with a plaster ceiling in the level below.
To meet the BCA requirements, the use of Hush Platinum underlay is generally sufficient.
